TWP 500 Series -- Total Wood Preservative Deck and Siding Stain (Matte Finish)
VOC Compliant in all 50 States and Canada
TWP 500 is a unique combination of chemicals that enhances the natural \beauty and warmth of new wood. Even old wood may be restored to its natural color with proper surface preparation. This product line is designed for maximum wood protection where wood color maintenance or a bleached silver gray appearance is not desired. The finish not only maintains the dimensional integrity of the new wood, but also enhances reinforcement and lubricity of properly cleaned porous dried out old wood. The chemical composition is designed to minimize mildew, grain checking, water absorption, shingle cupping, and surface erosion providing the applicator with a state of the art wood protectant. TWP 500 protects wood substrates from loss of color and water absorption. It is specifically formulated to resist mildew, mold and fungus growth on the paint film. The product contains powerful ultraviolet screening chemicals that prevent unsightly graying and loss of natural color. TWP 500 is not intended for the control of termites or other wood destroying insects.
TWP TOTAL WOOD PROTECTANT has Low V.O.C: Compliant in all 50 States and Canada
TWP 500 has a positive dry, no rub off when applied correctly.
TWP 500 Restores wood's moisture content and helps wood to stay flexible. It is designed to enhance the structural integrity and appearance of aged roofing or wood surface.
TWP 500 Series will add lubricity and re-bulk the aged, dried out wood fiber of brittle shingles or wood.
TWP 500 The finish composition will minimize grain cracking, cupping, curling, warping, surface erosion and water absorption
TWP 500 Penetrates deep into the wood.
TWP 500 At 63%+ solids, these products comply with all federal and state V.O.C. (volatile organic compounds) regulations.
TWP 500 is highly resistant to attack from unsightly mildew, algae and moss.
TWP 500 Blocks sunlight (UV rays) to protect natural wood colors for many years.
TWP 500 Provides water barrier to prevent surface erosion and water leaching of natural wood preservatives into the wood pores and is not a surface film.
Perfect for old or new decks, outdoor furniture, spas, picnic tables, benches, playground equipment, decks, gazebos, shutters, doors, windows, and boats (teak).
NEW WOOD: All new wood must be thoroughly wetted by rain or tap water at least twice to open wood grain and remove excess surface tannins. Allow a minimum of 48 hours of good drying conditions before applying TWP.
OLD WOOD: Rinse surface with 3:1 mix of water and household bleach to remove mildew; use wood bleach to brighten wood and follow with 1500 p.s.i. power washer to remove dead surface fiber. Allow a minimum of 48 hours of good drying conditions before applying TWP 500.
PRESSURE TREATED WOOD: Allow to age 1 year before treating with TWP.
PREVIOUSLY STAINED WOOD: Remove all of the old finish with power washing or paint stripper when necessary. Failure to remove the existing finish will result in a blotchy TWP application due to uneven penetration and discoloration of aged finish.
METHOD OF APPLICATION: MIX TWP 500 THOROUGHLY BEFORE USING! Apply with brush, roll, spray, wiping cloth or applicator pad. Do not apply below 40° F, if rain is anticipated with 48 hours or heavy dew is present.
TWP should be applied at 150–450 sq.ft/gal. with brush, roll or spray. Rate will vary depending on wood porosity. Remove excess or puddled material that has not penetrated after 15 minutes with a paint pad or dry roller. Recoat over porous wood may be done as a wet on wet application. Allow to dry to touch overnight. Walking on TWP before it is dry will cause tracking.
Because horizontal surfaces are subject to harsher conditions (foot traffic, standing water, deck furniture, spills, etc.) than vertical surfaces, they may require more frequent maintenance coats.
DRY TIME: 48-96 hours depending on drying conditions. Drying conditions will vary greatly depending on applied film thickness and weather conditions.
THINNING AND CLEANUP: No thinning required. Use mineral spirits for equipment clean up.
**Rag Disposal - Lay used rags in a single layer outdoors and allow to air dry for 24 hours. To minimize the chance of spontaneous combustion typical of natural drying oils, place rags in water filled metal container for disposal.
This product is toxic to fish. Do not contaminate water by cleaning of equipment or disposal of wastes.

I have used this product exclusively on my cedardeck and loghouse for approximately 8 years, I live in western Oregon where it rains a lot in the winter and has pretty dry summers. I like "TWP" because there is not much prep and no stripping, but you must stay on top of your staining ie don't let the stain wear out. I have a well travelled area on the front of my deck that is in the direct sunlight and I have found that I have to stain it yearly, in other areas of the deck I only need to stain every other year. The loghouse portion only needs restaining every three years on the weathered side. I use the 501 cedartone and this product blends in well with my western red cedar deck and douglas fir logs. the color is almost the same as what you would see out of a " Lincoln Log" toy set. I have not found any other product that will perform as well as this.
